Important message at the “AKVAculture Day”

We won’t be able to create growth unless we can handle the industry’s challenges.

Today’s first speaker, State Secretary for the Minister of Fisheries, reminded the audience of a simple, but important premise: “If we take care of the ocean, the ocean will take care of us”.

“We won’t be able to create growth unless we can handle the industry’s challenges. We must grow in harmony with nature,” State Secretary Roy Angelvik encouraged the AKVAculture Day audience.

The AKVAculture Day (AKVAkulturdagen) is a conference and exhibition in Bergen, Norway, arranged by AKVA group, which focuses on how new aquaculture technology can create sustainable growth. During the course of the day, a number of speakers will take the stage to share their thoughts on growth opportunities and the role of technology. The visitors are also introduced to some of the latest aquaculture technology from AKVA group and its collaborators.

State Secretary Roy Angelvik encouraged the audience to join forces to solve the environmental challenges and improve the industry’s reputation.

“The «Traffic Light arrangement» is not a collective punishment but does imply a collective responsibility. In order to solve the challenges we’re facing, we need to sit down and learn from each other. My impression is that the industry is getting better and better at this,” he said.  

Angelvik also praised the industry’s will to innovate and ability to leverage of public innovation funds, but would all the same like to see an even more daring industry.        

“New technology that is able to address our challenges, will play a key part moving forward. The development licence scheme is one of several tools we contribute with and I’m excited to see the results of the projects that have been granted licenses. The projects that succeed will benefit the whole industry,” Angelvik said. 

Akvagroup AsaMooring is one of several good topics of conversation at the AKVAculture Day.
