Intermec AS
Hydraulic & subsea products for the offshore market
Drilling equipment
Western Norway

Intermec AS was established in 1991 by Bjørn and Noralf Andreassen. The company began as a mechanical workshop with an emphasis on machining services. Later, priority was given to production in high-alloy materials for use in demanding offshore environments. The company began production and stock holding of stainless steel hydraulic fittings, as well as products for the encapsulation of electronics and fibre optics for use on subsea installation. Today, Intermec is able to offer a broad selection of hydraulic components combined with advanced products based on its customers’ designs and needs.

Customers & Markets
The company delivers both standard and special products to most of the hydraulic speciality wholesalers in Norway, including, amongst others, TESS, Mento, Dunlop-Hiflex, Hydroscand, GS-Hydro and Active Service. Parts for subsea/electronics encapsulation are delivered to Bennex Bergen Bennex Kongsberg and Seaproof Solutions, amongst others. The company delivers parts for Frank Mohn’s pump systems for the loading and unloading of tankers on Fusa. It also delivers different hydraulic manifolds to Oceaneering Rotator in Kristiansand.

Production Technology
Intermec wishes to be at the forefront of production equipment and therefore invests in the latest machines and software for CAD/CAM. In the last ten years, the company has invested around NOK 30 million in machinery and equipment. Modern and stable machines are an absolute necessity for working with high-alloy materials.

Close Dialogue With Customers
Intermec contributes actively, in cooperation with its customers, to constructive and cost effective solutions right from the design stage. It also gives advice about the chose of material based on the product’s range of application. This can in many instances give meaningful reductions in production costs. The company also offers digital designs for the customers’ special products.

Focus On Training
Intermec is an approved training company and has trained 14 skilled workers since 1994. At the moment, there are four apprentices and two TAF students at the company. Increasing challenges with recruitment to the machine working trade means that Intermec’s focus on education will be increasingly intensified over the coming years. With this in mind, the company has established a separate position as training leader.

Production Premises
The company operates in light up-to-date premises with a total of 2,400m2 at Torvgarden industry building at Askøy, around 15 minutes drive from the centre of Bergen. Clean and good conditions are of course important factors for effective production and good logistics. The company has always had a strong focus on quality, the environment and HSE. The company is now in the closing stages of
ISO 9001-2000 certification.

The Future
In the last five years, the quantity of assignments has risen markedly. In 2007 the company sold NOK 40 million of projects. The expectation is a continued growth in Norway as well as confidence that markets outside Norway will produce results. Together with NCE Subsea and Innovation Norway, the company works towards a goal of establishing its products amongst foreign users.
