Norway Exports Maritime

Norway has one of the largest and most comprehensive maritime sectors in global terms. The offshore fleet is the second largest in the world and the industry is characterized by its high competence, innovation and advanced technology.

Norway has built a strong global maritime knowledge base, extending from fisheries and governance of marine resources, to shipping, maritime operations, and offshore oil and gas activities. The Norwegian cluster also provides a broad range of products and services from ship equipment, service providers, shipbuilding companies, seafarers and ship owners. An area of research will focus on the possibilities for the Arctic areas. Norwegian authorities shall facilitate and encourage the Norwegian shipping and Norwegian maritime industries to participate actively in economic activities in the North.

Norwegian ships and offshore vessels are among the world’s most advanced and are therefore well suited for operations in northern waters. There is a strong link between new regulations for the maritime industry and the development of technology. This is something we see in relation to new international rules for ballast water. As these regulations are being developed, so has the technology in order to be in compliance with upcoming regulations. Norwegian companies have a strong position in ballast water treatment.   In this issue we present you with the most important maritime organizations as well as a series of articles to give you a more in-depth understanding of Norway’s present focus and activities. In the second half of the magazine you will find cutting-edge Norwegian companies within the maritime industry that provide their products or services on the global market.
